Influenza can be a serious disease and the vaccine can lower your risk of contracting it. The very young, the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses are more at risk of serious complications if they get influenza. The flu shot is recommended and free of charge for all Ontarians over 6 months of age. By getting a flu shot, you not only protect yourself but you protect your loved ones who may be at risk of serious illness. For more information consult the Public Health website
Announcements concerning our flushot clinics for the fall and winter 2021-2022 will be posted when the season approaches.
The high dose flushot is available in very limited quantities at the moment. As long as the supplies are limited, the high dose flushot will be reserved for patients over 65 with a chronic illness. The alternative is the quadrivalent vaccine. It protects you against 4 strains of the influenza virus. There are no studies comparing the efficacy of the 2 vaccines. Both are effective to lower your risk.
